![]() The jump from 1080p to 1440p was huge, I'd never go back. It's not quite as sharp as the iMac, but it still looks fairly "retina" to me, and I get a larger desktop (I run the UI scaled at 1440p, compared to the iMac default 1260p). I currently have a Mac mini with a 27" Dell 4k monitor. You might need to buy an external keyboard and trackpad too though, which are expensive if bought new from Apple. Otherwise, for the $250 difference to the higher-end iMac, you could get a refurbished 27" 4k IPS monitor together with the MacBook Pro. If you like the glossy 24" screen on the iMac, that could be good for you. Whether that's worth $200 is hard to say. It has only a 7-core GPU, is missing Ethernet, and has only two USB ports instead of four. Other than that, it's basically the portability the performance should be the same. That's assuming you get the iMac model with the 8-core GPU, which matches the MacBook Pro. ![]() With 16GB/512GB, the US Apple store shows $1699 for the MacBook Pro and $1899 for the iMac, or $1949 if you want the trackpad instead of the mouse.
